The Blue Zones Project™ is dedicated to helping towns become better places to live, work and play. Designation is one way to measure and reward the progress various organizations are achieving in your community!

There are four designations available for organizations:

• Worksite: Empowering employees to be happier, healthier and more productive by creating healthier work environments.
• Restaurant: Delivering greater service to patrons by making it easier to choose healthier foods.
• Grocery Store: Guiding customers to make healthy choices through food placement and promotion.
• School: Optimizing the school environment so that students eat better and are more active.

Three Steps for Designation

Take the Assessment

Each designation has a preliminary assessment that helps you evaluate your organization's current well-being status. Once you finish the survey, you can select Actions that are most relevant to your organization or school.

Commit to Actions

Actions are improvements an organization commits to in order to increase the long-term well-being of employees, customers or students. You can commit to as many Actions as you want to and you'll earn points for every Action your organization completes.

Complete Additional Requirements

In addition to Actions, there might be other requirements needed for designation. An organization may have to get a certain number of employees to sign the Blue Zones Project™ pledge or complete Actions in specific categories. You can find out what your requirements are by clicking through the designation requirements on the top of this page.

Actions for Long-lasting Benefits

Actions are simple changes that provide lasting benefits to people's physical health, emotional health and social relationships—helping them to live longer, better by making the healthier choice the easier choice.

In designation, each Action has an assigned number of points. When you complete an Action, you earn its points, which contribute to your organization's designation and overall well-being.

Validation Process

Once your organization has completed the required number of Actions, our system will notify us that you've reached this important milestone.

Shortly thereafter, a Blue Zones Project team member will reach out and help to walk you through the final step in the designation process – your validation packet. Your completed validation packet will help us ensure that all of the criteria have been met to bring positive change to your organization. Once approved, a Blue Zones Project team member will confirm your designation.

Display Your Designation Status

Let your community know your organization is committed to well-being! Place your designation status in your window and on your website to promote the achievements of your organization.

Commit to More Actions

Once you earn enough points for designation, continue improving your organization by committing to additional Actions. The more Actions you take, the greater your organization will benefit for years to come.

Pursue Another Designation

There are many ways to improve an organization, which is why it's possible for organizations to achieve additional designations. If you're a designated Blue Zones Worksite™, you can commit to making more specialized improvements with another designation, and vice versa.
